BathTub Orchestra’s Gig at Burdall’s Yard

Hello, everyone! We are the BathTub Orchestra, and we are delighted to share with you our experience of playing at Burdall’s Yard on Saturday 11th June 2022. We are a mixed ability orchestra that plays everything from pop songs, jazz, blues, film soundtracks and classical favourites. We are based in Bath, and we started in October 2018 as a group of music lovers who wanted to have fun and learn together.

We played a set list of 10 songs that showcased our diversity and energy, after listening to the Afternoon Rock Choirs excellent performance! We kicked off with Cars by Gary Numan, followed by Living for the City by Stevie Wonder. Then we got everyone clapping along to Happy by Pharrell Williams, and grooving to Chameleon by Herbie Hancock.

We slowed things down with Teardrop by Massive Attack, and then rocked out with Rosanna by Toto. We showed our metal side with Titanium by David Guetta and Sia, and then went retro with Take on Me by A-ha. We ended with a bang with The Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga and Mission Impossible by Lalo Schifrin.

We had so much fun playing for you, and we hope you enjoyed listening to us. Thank you for your support and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to see you again at our next gig!

From first meeting to debut performance!

From 23rd October 2018 to 30th November 2018, we made the journey from a group of strangers to a fully fledged performing orchestra - that's just 6 weeks' practice! The first rehearsal... When Tony (keyboard) and Ed (musical director) decided to form an orchestra, they didn't know what to expect. So it must have been really pleasing to see around fourteen people show up for the first rehearsal. Everyone was a bit nervous - we were nearly all strangers - and we had quite a broad range of experience within the group. It was a bit like the first day at school! We'd had the music to practice for about a month beforehand so it was really exciting to go from practicing at home alone to playing with a room full of about fourteen other musicians - you could see the excitement on Ed's face when he heard the first bars of his arrangements being played back to him by a group of strangers. Practice, practice, practice You could really hear the sound develop each week as we star

A new logo for the BathTub Orchestra

We would like to thank Mytton Williams , a local brand and design agency based in the historic city of Bath, for designing a new brand and logo for the BathTub Orchestra. They created a professional design brief which identified key traits of the orchestra to include in the new logo, and provided us with three options. After a short discussion with part of the orchestra, we gave them feedback and they quickly made a few small tweaks. We are very happy with the end result. We've already started using the new logo on this website, social media, and posters that you may have seen around town. We've also bought a new banner featuring the logo which you'll see at our next gig at Bath Vegan Festival this Saturday at noon. It also folds up really small!
